Bernard is a builder bear. And, just like Cindy, he loves to sit in his garden. This is where they both enjoy cups of tea, all the while thinking about what they will do when they finally get around to fixing up their lovely homes.

Bernard's story begins...

"Bernard was a bear who was very good at building things...

He had a lovely house in the woods that he had built himself.  But that was many years ago, and now his house needed a lot of work.  It needed a new roof and the door squeaked and sagged a bit on its hinges.  He wanted some new window boxes and the steps up to the door could use some clearing and straightening.

As Bernard was sitting on his favorite bench one spring morning, enjoying his cup of tea and the new warm sun on his face, Chester the Squirrel came by.

“Please Bernard,” said Chester, “My old house is too small, and I need a new one.  Would you build me one?”

Now, Chester was an old friend of Bernard’s, so Bernard said, “Of course.”

He began work on Chester’s house the very next day.  It was a wonderful house in the trees.  There was a pantry with lots of cupboards for storing nuts.  There was a hammock for sleeping and a slide to get down to the ground fast.

Squirrel was delighted..."
